Beauty so Intense, you’ll get a heart sinking feeling

You are whisked into this wonderfully amazing, canal-lined city, by train (Le Frecce service gets you here fastest) and arrive into the main rail station of Santa Lucia. As you exit station, and step out into Venice, you are in for a real cultural awakening. Watch local artists as they go to work on their paintings, and the gentle course the gondolas travel on as they navigate the many canals. Welcome to Venice !

Now imagine you’ve flown into the city. Same effect ? We didn’t think so.

About Italy

There’s no way to describe a city so mythical, so ethereal in just a page. Instead, focus on the feeling, even when enjoying touristy pursuits. Have a Bellini where the drink originated – Harry’s Bar at Cipriani’s near Piazza San Marco. Pretend you’re Hemingway crafting your next story. Take a vaporetto ride to the Guggenheim museum and imagine yourself at home, just as Peggy did. Feed the pigeons in St. Mark’s Square, and rejoice in getting a little good luck on your shoulder.

This is an expensive city, which is why so many travelers take a day trip here instead of staying a day, a week or a lifetime here (ah, if only.) With our Eurail Italy Rail Pass, easily access Venice from almost any point in Italy. Only three hours from Milan, have lunch in Sante Croce and be back for The Last Supper. The Eternal City of Rome is under four hours. Could you drive ? Yes. But why would you ? The Italian signs you can’t read, the speed limits Italians ignore, the traffic – it’s all so…uncivilized. And flying ? Let’s see, spend hours in the airport before your plane even takes off ? Or staring out your window, watching the world go by, enjoying an espresso and meeting a new friend.

This is the art of travel. Visiting Venice by train ? A brushstroke of genius.

Venetians love bar snacks or cicchetti like fried clab claws and marinated sardines. Try cuttlefish risotto, pasta e fagioli (pasta and bean soup) and fegato alla veneziana (liver with onions, washed down with regional Prosecco and Valpolicella wines. By night, bar-hop in backstreet haunts and visit Ernest Hemingway’s favourite spot, Harry’s Bar.

Have a look at the Venetian ateliers to discover how and where the most famous traditional products are created. You will discover Venice’s top handcraft tradition: velvets, marbleized paper, books and leather bindings, Carnival masks, gold and silver jewellery, and other wonders.

On the go with Frecciarossa ! |
"Easy to manage, affordable train ticket pricing, decent leg space (for the price you pay) and the staff were helpful when you have questions. More importantly, it's widely reminded to safe guard your personal belongings at all time and if you are alert on that note, the train ride will be just fine :) "

  • Very beautiful trip |
"It was a beautiful trip - traveling in first class in a compartment with one other couple from Germany - we had a very nice conversation along the way and the scenery was absolutely stunning - it was clear and sunny the entire trip - except when it got later and then it was clear and you could see the stars. Just beautiful. Only complaint was that the food car was not adequately staffed, did not have enough food, and the service was so slow that we eventually left - after the staff told us they could not take any more orders. It was a good thing we did bring a little lunch - however, we could not even get a cup of coffee they were so overwhelmed. Maybe compartment service for the people traveling in first class - or additional staff....not sure. "
