Transportation and connections

Leonardo da Vinci airport (Fiumicino Airport) is the busiest airport in Rome, located about 16 miles southwest of the city center. It sees about as much traffic as the crowded streets of Rome do, but it offers a multitude of options for getting travelers from the airport out into the city and beyond.

The most popular and convenient way to travel between Fiumicino and Rome city center is the Leonardo Express : Travel time is just 30 minutes in air-conditioned, non-smoking, First Class comfort. It’s located just alongside the main terminal of the airport and departs every 30 minutes.
The train arrives at the Rome Termini train station in the heart of the city in just 30 minutes. Travelers holding a Eurail Italy Pass can use a day of travel to cover this ride (just make sure your pass is validated at the airport train station before you get on the train). If you don’t have a pass, individual tickets for this express train can be purchased on our website.

Another travel option is the FR1 metropolitan service ; it connects Fiumicino Airport by metro to many of the other train stations in Rome : Roma Trastevere, Roma Ostiense, Roma Tuscolana and Roma Tiburtina.

Taxi stands and car rental services are available in Terminals 1, 2, 3 and 5. A taxi to the city center costs about 40 euros (set rate).

Once travelers arrive at Rome Termini train station from the airport, Trenitalia and Italo high speed trains offer connections to major Italian cities like Milan (about 3 hours), Naples (about 1 hour), Florence (about 1.5 hours), and Venice (about 3.5 hours).
