Oviedo, a great stop-over on your way to Santiago de Compostela

Oviedo, proud capital of Asturias in northern Spain. Situated on the Atlantic shores, it is a charming setting for breathtaking holidays. Due to its geographical situation, Oviedo delivers an interesting mix of Visigothic, Roman, and later of Norman cultures.

About Spain

From the cathedral of San Salvador, where the pilgrim’s route of San Compostella was spawned, up to the many chapels and churches from the pre Romanesque times in the surroundings, Oviedo keeps a strong link toward its History.

Besides the castle of San Juan de Priorio, you might also enjoy a couple of museums. But life also feels good when it’s meal time. Drink a local sidra (cider) and pick slices of the typical and spicy chorizo, before you try the delicious callos (tripe) or carne gobernada (meat, garlic and onion with white wine sauce).

And then you will feel absolutely welcome, and understand how good are the vacations in Oviedo.
