Awesome serenade

I now understand why they describe it as romantic. Venice is an old city with deep character and all you hear is the swishing of the water, the birds, and the serenade. It's a flotilla of 5 or 6 gondolas and the singer in the middle gondola. Though we weren't lucky to be in the middle gondola, the singer's voice echoed and bounced back and forth while cruising the alleyways. It makes you smile and fall in love. One tip though, if you want to be in the gondola with the singer, count all the tourists in the queue and place yourself in the middle. Or watch out for the two gentlemen carrying a bag this is the instrument bag an accordion I think and stay close to them. The gondola seats 6 persons, so in a flotilla of 5, be the 13th to 16th person in the queue. But even if the singer is not in your gondola, the experience itself fills your soul. We are definitely doing this again and I guess I'll bribe the tour operator to sit next to the singer :

A must do for anyone visiting Venice. But keep in mind that you are not guaranteed for the musicians to be on your gondola but they will be part of the group and can still be heard while navigating the canals.

I think if it was any longer or not in a group you would feel a bit silly! But we genuinely enjoyed it :)

It was really an experience to remember. We arrived as a group of five but late at the shore just at the stroke of 3:30. They quickly found a gondola and got us on our way, caught up with the other gondolas in the tour and we had the full experience, navigating the canals while being serenaded with famous arias from musicians on a nearby gondola. A little costly, but how many times in a lifetime does one do this?

We rode on a flotilla of six gondolas, with a lovely serenade through the narrow canals of Venice. Long line to get on the gondola, but a lovely ride, with no haggling over price. Make sure you arrive early to insure you board at the scheduled time.

Lots of fun. Short trip, but the singer and accordion player added to the experience. People were taking pictures of the floatial from the bridges.

We had a great boatman and what I thought was going to be a short hokey tourist ride turned out to be thoroughly enjoyable.

What I thought would be a short, touristy ride turned out to be quite enjoyable and gave us a great perspective of the city. We had an adorable boatman who joked and sang to us the whole time.

Its a gondola ride, not a romantic trip around Venice.

I think the reviews would vary on what you are trying to get out of it. As other views said its 5 boats with the middle boat having the singer and accordion. It takes a short little circle of the grand canal and then heads ups a small canal section and back. They were very friendly, organized and was a fun ride. Lasted about 30 minutes but was enough for us.

If you are after a very romantic ride and have some preconceived notion of what you want. Get a private ride that you can customize and discuss with the various gondoliers. If all you are after is to say I've been on gondola in Venice, then this was about perfect for the cost. I took my 13 yr daughter and we had fun. Thats the best way to put it. It was a fun time.

Singer was fun and songs were more lively. Not slow romantic stuff. We happened to be on the middle boat so I'm sure it affected our enjoyment but I feel that had we not been in with the singer it would have been fine also.

They load first come first serve first meaning people who were there first got the front boat and last got the last boat. So its all luck to be in the middle boat and where you sit. 2 people in the back sit next to each other and the rest across from each other. Our ride was at 6:30 dusk and we arrived at 5:45 and sat on a bench waiting for them to start loading around 6:15. Just after 7 we were on our way to dinner.

The private rides we saw listed costs around 100-120 euros a person.

Fantastic experience, highly recommended. We booked the evening tour at 6.30pm just as the sun was setting on the Grand Canal. Made it much more atmospheric with the light shining on the water.

A must do if you're in Venice. Loved our gondolier and the serenade. I experienced some initial confusion on whether we were able to skip the line or not - we were not able to with this ticket, but the line moved very quickly and it was fine.
