  • Day 1: Zurich–Schaffhausen–St Gallen–Lucerne
  • Day 2: Lucerne–Interlaken
  • Day 3: Interlaken–Montreux–Martigny–Zermatt
  • Day 4: Zermatt–Bern–Zurich

Day 1:

Zurich–Schaffhausen–St Gallen–Lucerne

You start in world-famous Zurich and pass through Schaffhausen, a beautiful old town with Renaissance-era buildings -- perfect for strolling. Then St Gallen awaits, with its awe-inspiring Abbey precinct -- a UNESCO World Heritage site. Depart St Gallen on the Pre-Alpine Express for Lucerne, a beautiful journey through the Toggenburg region that includes crossing over a 325-foot railway bridge, the highest in Switzerland.

Day 2:

Before leaving Lucerne, take the cogwheel railway up to Mount Rigi, one of the most beautiful peaks in all of Switzerland or, enjoy a romp to the only glacier in Central Switzerland, Mt Titlis, with the world’s first revolving cable car. Then take the spectacular GoldenPass Line from Lucerne over the Brünig Pass to Interlaken. Once in Interlaken, consider a side-trip to Jungfraujoch - Top of Europe: a sparkling snow and ice wonderland accessed through the highest altitude railway station in Europe.

Day 3:

Continue on through the scenic Simme Valley and vineyards to Montreux on Lake Geneva. From Lake Geneva, you’ll travel to Martigny—the gateway to Great St Bernard and Forclaz Pass. Continue on via Brig to Zermatt to enjoy an excursion to Gornergrat, the finest views of the mighty Matterhorn via a century-old cog railway—a vista that includes 29 sky-high peaks.

Day 4:

Not to be missed after leaving Zermatt: a stop in Bern - a UNESCO World Heritage site and home to one of the longest covered shopping promenades in Europe. Then you return to all that cosmopolitan Zurich has to offer. All in all, a totally filling, and fulfilling, itinerary.
