More than canals, culture and cannabis Amsterdam, also known as the Venice of Northern Europe, is a world-class capital known for its rich culture, openness and tolerance. Amsterdam Centraal Station (CS) is at the heart of the city and can easily be reached from Schiphol airport within 15 minutes. Miss the train? Not to worry – they run every ten minutes. The Centraal Station’s impressive neo-renaissance building is located at the IJ waterfront. Unless you plan to travel by one of the ferries from the north side of the station, you’ll need to exit at the center side, where all buses, trams, metros, taxis, departure quays for tourist boats and the main Amsterdam tourist office are located. The station’s location is unique, situated on three man-made islands, themselves resting on over 8,000 wooden piles that have been driven deep into the sandy soil. Several canals that have recently been added to the UNESCO heritage list surround the train station. Learn more about Amsterdam
Just a dab leaves you longing for more Cologne or "Köln", as the locals call their city, is so rich in history that excavations can date the area back to 38 BC when the Romans set up camp here. Cologne is over 2000 years old and was once a center for international trade. With that came riches, which helped build the city's incredible architectural gems. Exit the centrally located Cologne Hauptbahnhof (main train station) and find yourself smack dab in front of the city's biggest and best sight: the magnificent Cologne cathedral (Köln er Dom). Think of the church as your compass (moral or otherwise) around the capital of Rhineland. The edifice will seemingly follow you, as it can be seen from nearly every point in the city. "My response is months overdue but I would like to mention that the ICE train trips are always a wonderful experience. The train is clean, fast and always on time. We will certainly make use of the ICE train for our future visits to Europe. "
"***** Excellent for comfort . value for money and convenience. Travelling with family from Koln to Amsterdam under 3 hrs with the train going at a speed of 250km/hr was an enjoyable experience. Enjoyed the coffee from the Bistro as well. "

"Convenient and Comfort, Service in ticket office in main station are good. Searching the train timetable is very important to customer. Most of the customer need to go to information counter to check. Wasting time and there may have communication issue. I think the on line time table in ticket machine is very good. I think it is better to have some individual time table checking machine for guest in main station will be much more convienent to a new traveler for the city. "

"The staff to activate teh Europass is very nice and helpful, teach us how to fill in the form in the pass. But the staff on the train (Ams - Koeln) to check tickets is a bit rude. We have filled in the travel log, but forgot the date on the pass, the staff presumed we intended to do so. "
