Slovakian trains : the most efficient and comfortable way to travel across Slovakia.
- Book up to 60 days in advance
- Regional trains
Slovakia is a small country, but there are many train journeys to choose from. The dense railway network is operated by ZSSK, the national railway company of Slovakia.
The trains are comfortable and economical, and we’d recommend travelers upgrade to first class for these trips. First class is fairly affordable on trains in general, but in Slovakia even more so, making it the perfect place for travelers to treat themselves !
Seats are comfortable and spacious, but there are very few, if any, bar cars available on these trains, so make sure to bring along a snack if you’re hungry.
E-ticketing is not available, so travelers will be issued a paper ticket that they will show to the conductor onboard the train. Slovakian trains are available for booking up to 60 days in advance.

Common Questions, Simple Answers
Q. Do I have to use 2 days on my Rail Pass when taking an overnight train ?
A. You don’t have to if you use the 7PM rule and a direct train. The 7:00 PM rule applies if you take the night train AFTER 7:00 PM on a set date. Then only the arrival date is counted as a travel day. This is only valid if you have used your Pass before 7:00 PM on any train. If not, you will have to enter both dates.
Q. Can I obtain a discount in Great Britain when I buy a Eurail or Eurail Select Pass ?

Q. Will French National Strike affect my travel ?
A. A national strike impacting rail services in France has been announced between April 3 to June 31, 2018. 24 hours prior to the scheduled day of travel, verify by train number if that train is scheduled to be in service by following this link. Train number can be found on the train ticket or the booking confirmation. If a train is impacted, and the traveler prefers not to travel during a strike day, please send all inquiries to Rail Europe through the Contact Us page or, if in France, go directly to a railway station and ask the local railway official for assistance. Please visit our dedicated national strike page for the latest updates on the situation in France.
