Slovakian trains

Slovakia is a small country, but there are many train journeys to choose from. The dense railway network is operated by ZSSK, the national railway company of Slovakia.

The trains are comfortable and economical, and we’d recommend travelers upgrade to first class for these trips. First class is fairly affordable on trains in general, but in Slovakia even more so, making it the perfect place for travelers to treat themselves!

Seats are comfortable and spacious, but there are very few, if any, bar cars available on these trains, so make sure to bring along a snack if you’re hungry.

E-ticketing is not available, so travelers will be issued a paper ticket that they will show to the conductor onboard the train. Slovakian trains are available for booking up to 60 days in advance.

  • Slovakian trains tickets are open for booking 60 days ahead.
  • Get the lowest prices by booking early and don’t wait until the last minute as cheaper seats sell the fastest.
  • Opt for off-peak trains when you have to travel short notice. They are more affordable than morning and evening trains along with those running on holiday eves, Friday and Sunday afternoon.
